Hello and Happy Social Media Day!

Whoever comes up with these national holidays is a genius! This one I knew I wanted to plan a photoshoot for, because this blog started with an outfit post on social media.

IMG_1690IMG_1697IMG_1712

It is crazy to think that my long time followers have known me for 3 years, when I was just 17.

{I’m getting old lol}

As I look back on my primitive posts on Instagram, (which is a scary and slightly embarrassing place to look back on) I see how year after year, without being aware how different my thought process was, and not to mention my style.

IMG_1733IMG_1735

June 30th  “aka” Social Media Day  was a celebration day for me. I cannot help but look back and reminisce the excitement I had when my “ModestlyHot” account was only 2 days old, and already had 100 followers!

Although I only reposted cute modest outfits from Pinterest at the time, I slowly conquered my fear and finally after a couple of months I posted my own #ootd.

I remember being so nervous (terrified)  about you guys would think, or if I was going to make a complete fool out of myself.

IMG_1781

I very well recognized that me putting myself on the internet would have moments of negativity and backlash, but I was already preparing myself for it. I made it a goal and a promise to myself that if any negative comment would appear that I would not be so easily offended, and that I would try to see if there be any truth to their criticism.

Here are some quick tips to handle criticism/negative comments when they arise 🙂

Tip #1: Do not be easily offended.

Not being easily offended is a sign of a spiritual maturity as a Christian. Look beyond the initial comment itself and really try to figure out the essence of what they are trying to communicate. Most often negative comments are said in a vulgar and mean spirited tone of voice, but do not focus in on that rather try to capture the essence of the criticism

Tip #2: BE THE BIGGER PERSON

Keep it classy! Do not lower yourself to use the same fashion of words as they are. Remember you are the owner of the page and all eyes are on you to see how you will react and respond. You set the tone of your blog and social media!

Tip #3: Breathe, Pray and Reply!

Just breathe! We are all humans with a temper but NEVER reply when you are angry!

It will bring you feelings of remorse later on. Ask God to provide you with wisdom on how to reply and may you gain a follower and not an enemy!

A quick testimony about this tip, I had received a negative comment on one of my posts when I first started out. Being human I was tempted to give that person a “piece of my mind” right there and then. But instead I prayed about it and asked God to give me the wisdom and kindness to reply. So I did. What happened next completely shocked me!

The person who had originally made the comment deleted it, apologized, and now she is one of the best supporters I have!

Just goes to show you what a God lead answer said with grace and truth can do!

Do not give people a “piece of your mind”, but rather give them a piece of your heart. ❤

Well I hope you didn’t mind me sharing my thoughts in a long winding post today!

Enjoy the pictures and have a safe and Happy 4th of July weekend!

💛🌹Disney Princess Beauty and the Beast Inspired Outfit! Featuring Shabby Apple!💛🌹+ DIY Enchanted Rose!

Happy Saturday Lovelies!!

Disney fashion inspired looks are back!🙌🏻 You may remember this lookbook about a year ago where  I would try to replicate a Disney character’s outfit, makeup and hair with items I had in my closet!

Personally I  don’t celebrate Haloween but find it so much fun to dress up as a Disney Princess anytime of the year! ❤️💙💛

Here is a quick DIY Disney Inspired Princess Belle outfit with things you have already in your closet!

I cannot wait to share with you all this Belle inspired outfit! 😍 drumroll please🎉

I chose to channel my inner Belle from Beauty and the Beast!❤️🌹💛

Okay you guys I must confess Belle is definitely my favorite Disney Princess!😍😍🌹❤️

I recreated Belle’s ball gown look with the help of this gorgeous Shabby Apple Dress!!😍💛🙌🏻

The style of it is called the “West End Dress” and it’s stunning! The bow wrap around style made the fit just right! I love that it has a tie that I can adjust depending on how tight/loose I want it!

It features a gorgeous satin sheen with a flared bottom!

 How to Belle’s Hair:

for Belle’s hair all you’ll need is:

~hair elastic

~bobby pins

~Hairspray

~Brush

~Yellow Ribbon

First you want to curl your hair with a one inch curling iron or wand! Next you’d want to do a small half up half down hair poof and reserve the hair on the sides of your head to pin later!

Make the small hair poof and tie it!

Place the yellow ribbon on top of the poof and secure with bobby pins !

(Remember to “X” your Bobby pins for maximum security)

Take the hair that you reserved and tease the sides and pin in place!

Super easy and takes about 15 minutes !

How to Belle’s Makeup:

For Belle’s makeup the key is soft Browns and rose golds on the lid with bright red lips! I achieved th Belle look using my favorite makeup pallete ever: The Disney Beauty Books!!

The packaging alone is worth it!! I picked up three of the 4 books in Walgreens back in April and I’m obsessed!😍🙌🏻💕

I love how the eyeshadow names relate to the movies!💙❤️💛 Quality wise they’re not the best I’ve ever tried (sorry Disney Lorac stole my heart) but they’re pretty good and a must if you’re a Disney Princess fanatic like me!💙❤️💛👑

Now my favorite part of the Disney photoshoots have to be “DIY’ing” the props! Of course who can forget the Enchanted Floating Rose from Beauty and the Beast!

I went online to see if buying it would be cheaper than making it but found my answer quickly when I saw that they ran up to $180! 😱

So I just made it instead for under $16!

You will need :

~Dome Bell Jar

~Plastic Rose from Michaels/Walmart !

You can even find bell jars at your local thrift store!

Also I think it would be adorable to add string lights around the rose for a cute nightlight /room decor !

I hope you all have a great day tommorow and I’ll be talking to you soon lovelies!💕

Xoxo

Ashley 🌹

Dorothy Wizard of Oz Inspired Outfit! Featuring Shabby Apple!

”We’re Off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz!”

Now that I got that off my chest (and stuck in your head ) let’s begin with today’s outfit!

I’ve always been a bit of a nerd when it comes to cosplaying! Now I am aware my version of cosplaying isn’t as extreme as others but just enough to get recognized as my desired characters!

IMG_2368

IMG_2385

Now Dorothy has always been on my ”To-Do” Outfit list for several reasons!

1.You get to carry around a cute little basket

2. Her red lipstick and makeup!

3. Baby Blue with Red Glitter Slippers!

IMG_2363

All I am missing is my Toto!!! Funny story I was at Zurchers shopping for a birthday party and I saw the cutest mini basket with Toto prop!! UGH I should have bought it but I didn’t think I would actually use it again!

IMG_2361

Initially this outfit was inspired by the name of my skirt, the ”Dorothy Skirt” from Shabby Apple! I have seen this skirt all over Pinterest and I knew I just HAD to have it!!

IMG_2386

IMG_2364

As I took it home I was pondering long and hard of what to pair up this beautiful polka dot skirt with! (I was having fashion blogger’s block lol) I read the label on the skirt and AHA! the light bulb came onas I knew I was going to be Dorothy!

IMG_2365

The top had to be white to make the white polka dots in the skirt pop! But I wanted to go for a glam version of Dorothy so I decided on wearing a white sequin top instead of a plain tee!

(Sequins and polka dots? Um yes please!)

I actually had my eyes on these GORGEOUS sequin tops around Christmas time but I wasn’t going to pay $20 each for all three! I waited and waited til I scored all three tops for just $15!

IMG_2372

IMG_2369

IMG_2370

IMG_2371

Dorothy is known for her adorable pigtails but I for sure cannot rock them as well as she did!

So I went for a vintage half up half down hairstyle with a poof an a bow in the back!

(thank goodness for Pinterest Tutorials!)

Well that wraps up today’s #ootd!

Can’t wait to chat with you all soon!

Polka Dots and Denim! Featuring Shabby Apple!

Happy Sunday Everyone!!!

It was such a gorgeous day here in Utah, it was bright and sunny but a bit chilly! (Deceiving weather really!)

Remember that mystery item I was telling you all that I was going to pick up?!

Um…well here it is!

IMG_2212

MY DREAM SKIRT!! AAH! Ladies I cannot tell you how long this skirt has been on my wishlist!

#skirtgoals

In addition to this skirt I got more Shabby Apple goodies I cannot wait to share with you!

Okay this skirt is probably in my top 3 most loved skirts I own!

IMG_2215

I remember seeing this skirt all over Pinterest and thinking to myself, ” I will have that skirt in my closet!”

That’s one thing about me, when I want something, you better believe I am going to get it! LOL Whether I have to go to the ends of the world and back, I always try and make it work! Even when I was little I have been this way!

hahaha a quick little story that comes to mind is that when I was in kindergarten I wanted to buy everyone gifts for Christmas and I was not willing to buy them with my parent’s money (I mean it’s not a gift if they end up buying it right?..)

So I came up with a fabulous idea of drawing kitty cat drawings and selling them for a profit. (Yes, I til this day say kitty cat don’t judge lol)

I went around school selling these cat drawings for $1 each and was able to buy my parents and brother gifts, weeks before Christmas! I still remember how shocked my parents were in finding out that I had sold cat drawings to buy gifts for them! LOL

IMG_2217

I totally recommend this skirt for numerous reasons!

1. To feel like a Princess

2. The material is such nice quality!

3. To feel like a Princess

and

4. To feel like a Princess

I feel like that sums it all up!

IMG_2214

While this skirt is pretty awesome in itself finding a top to go along with it was a challenge!

I tried countless number of tops with this skirt! I mean I went through my entire closet and they just didn’t see right!

So I put to practice my famous last words;…”When in doubt; Wear CHAMBRAY!”

Yes chambray is always the answer!

IMG_2222

IMG_2219

IMG_2223

This skirt is actually very fluffy and poofy all on its own but I wanted even MORE poof to the skirt so I added a tulle skirt underneath to give it some more lift!

IMG_2227

IMG_2226

For my accessories I wanted it to be very glamorous so I added my Crystal Cluster Necklace and some vintage crystal earrings!

IMG_2229

IMG_2224

I couldn’t help but twirl and spin around in my Waltzing Matilda Skirt!!

Way to go Shabby Apple! You definitely won me over with this cute little number!

I hope you all have a fabulous week and I am excited to chat with you gorgeous gals again!

XOXO,

Ashley
