Fun Fact #1: Why yes I did indeed climb these rocks with 5 inch heels 😉 Had my friend (photographer) Mildred scared to death!

Disclaimer: Pretty please do not try this at home! It was not a safe place to be hiking with heels, but a blogger has to get her Pocahontas shots!

img_3349 (1)

DIY Pocahontas Costume Essentials also known as the Pocahontas Starter Kit 😉

Here’s what you will need:

  1. Brown Fringe Skirt
  2. White Top
  3. Straightened Hair
  4. A chunky tribal turquoise necklace
  5. Brown Matte Lipstick (I used the Essence Matte Lip Liner in Soft berry! $2)

img_3289 (1)img_3287 (1)img_3282 (1)

I finally found the PERFECT and MODEST fringe skirt on Poshmark!! No slip needed!

Usually with a fringe skirt the fringe would not be full enough to be modest, however this one not only was a lined skirt, but the fringe was full of beautiful movement!

Oh did I mention that it was only $9?!

img_3426 (1)

Now that’s what I call a fringe skirt! Cannot believe this was a skirt originally from Forever 21! All you Poshmarkers go ahead and follow J’s Closet on Poshmark! Incredibly fast shipping and beautiful clothes! img_3425 (1)

Fun Fact #2: This location was literally 15 minutes away from my home! The perks of living in Utah! We are truly blessed to call this part of Utah’s “backyard”! #BeUtahful

A necklace that makes a statement! Mirina Collections sent me this STUNNING turquoise tribal inspired famous necklace! By far one of my favorites! Where Tribal meets Glamour! img_3332 (1)img_3421 (1)img_3435 (1)

Fun Fact #3: Shoes and Purse are brought you by Target: Expect more, Pay Less, (a lot less 😉

FUN FACT #5: Amanda from Aesthically You is the best at Eyelash Extensions in Utah!

I am not just saying that! She truly is very gentle yet effective at her job! My eyelashes can look good as soon as I wake up! What I liked the most about them was the amount of curl they had and they were not heavy at all!

Modest Swimwear Hack! Featuring Jessica Rey and Slide the City Event Review!

1,000 ft. water slide across the streets of downtown SLC? Sign me up! For the longest time ever, I have always wanted to go to this city wide event and my wish finally came true this year!

View More: http://trishkarenphotography.pass.us/slidethecity

P.S. How cute are all these trendy pool floats? Thanks Target!

View More: http://trishkarenphotography.pass.us/slidethecity

Slide the City  event was organized in waves of time periods you could attend to limit your time waiting in line. Once you reached the top of the hill it was time to grab your float and take the jump to slide the the streets in SLC.

View More: http://trishkarenphotography.pass.us/slidethecityView More: http://trishkarenphotography.pass.us/slidethecity

Okay, funny story literally the night before the event I rushed over to my local Target to grab myself a watermelon pool float! The awesome thing was that all their pool floats were on sale for 50% OFF! Which made my watermelon float that much “sweeter” and pun was definitely intended 😉

Alright so let’s jump right into what I wore to Slide the City! I am so grateful that I had my modest girl trio along with me to take a stand for modesty. I am also grateful that we were not the only ones at the event promoting modesty. You see, I live in Utah which is a conservative state for the most part, and I was beyond pleased to see young ladies in their cute and covered swimsuits while having fun!

img_4409

Red, White, blue & gingham for a 4th of July picnic inspired look!

My modest swimsuit is from the gorgeous Jessica Rey, founder of Rey swimwear!

Jessica is a sweet friend of mine who I had the pleasure of meeting last August!

img_4407

She is an inspiration! Her video on the evolution of the swimsuit on Youtube has over 2 million views and is a must watch! It is a beautifully researched lecture on why we choose to be modest.

Plus, I adore her tagline, “Who says it has to be itsy bitsy?”

I expressed to Jessica that I would have to wear a longer skirt over the suit to fit my convictions and she was still willing to work with me! (An exciting Giveaway coming soon! 😉

So here is the modest swimwear hack that will be able to work with just about any swimsuit! It will literally cut your swimsuit shopping in half!

All I did was buy 2 yards of red stretchy fabric at Walmart and an elastic band!

I made a quick DIY circle skirt and sewed on the elastic band and VOILA! Longer swim skirt was finished! Let me know if you’d like a step by step tutorial on it!

img_4411

the cool thing about this skirt is that it actually dried pretty quick without having to purchase actual swimwear fabric which costs more than half as much!

$3 per yard at Walmart vs. $10 per yard for actual swimwear fabric

$6 (fabric)  + $2 (elastic) = $8 swim skirt

VS.

$20 (fabric) + $2 (elastic) = $22 swim skirt

Watermelons, nachos, doughnuts, and flamingos?! I think this just about describes our group! lol

If you are planning on attending Slide the City, here are some things to consider before you go!

Know before you Go: Slide the City

  1. Bring as little as possible! If you can leave your purse in your car, DO IT!
  2. Water stations are provided all throughout the event so you can leave that water bottle in your house!
  3. Cheap flip flops are the way to go! I wouldn’t bring my designer pair of sandals to this event as you may run the risk of losing them when going down the slide! *runaway sandals were seen all throughout the event lol*
  4. No towels are needed! If it was as hot as it was here in Utah, there was no need to bring a towel as just walking around made us dry really quickly, plus it is one less thing you need to bring and take care of!

A BIG SHOUTOUT to our amazing photographer Trish  who literally braved all the elements we threw at her and still managed to take amazing photos!

I mean we are talking like, shooting at the worst possible time (noon), water, heat and carrying  all our stuff! She was a trooper! Thank you Trish!

Enjoy the photos and have a great and safe 4th of July weekend!

Happy Social Media Day! BIG Thank you for 28.6K Followers!

IMG_1707

Hello and Happy Social Media Day!

Whoever comes up with these national holidays is a genius! This one I knew I wanted to plan a photoshoot for, because this blog started with an outfit post on social media.

IMG_1690IMG_1697IMG_1712

It is crazy to think that my long time followers have known me for 3 years, when I was just 17.

{I’m getting old lol}

As I look back on my primitive posts on Instagram, (which is a scary and slightly embarrassing place to look back on) I see how year after year, without being aware how different my thought process was, and not to mention my style.

IMG_1733IMG_1735

June 30th  “aka” Social Media Day  was a celebration day for me. I cannot help but look back and reminisce the excitement I had when my “ModestlyHot” account was only 2 days old, and already had 100 followers!

Although I only reposted cute modest outfits from Pinterest at the time, I slowly conquered my fear and finally after a couple of months I posted my own #ootd.

I remember being so nervous (terrified)  about you guys would think, or if I was going to make a complete fool out of myself.

IMG_1781

I very well recognized that me putting myself on the internet would have moments of negativity and backlash, but I was already preparing myself for it. I made it a goal and a promise to myself that if any negative comment would appear that I would not be so easily offended, and that I would try to see if there be any truth to their criticism.

Here are some quick tips to handle criticism/negative comments when they arise 🙂

Tip #1: Do not be easily offended.

Not being easily offended is a sign of a spiritual maturity as a Christian. Look beyond the initial comment itself and really try to figure out the essence of what they are trying to communicate. Most often negative comments are said in a vulgar and mean spirited tone of voice, but do not focus in on that rather try to capture the essence of the criticism

Tip #2: BE THE BIGGER PERSON

Keep it classy! Do not lower yourself to use the same fashion of words as they are. Remember you are the owner of the page and all eyes are on you to see how you will react and respond. You set the tone of your blog and social media!

Tip #3: Breathe, Pray and Reply!

Just breathe! We are all humans with a temper but NEVER reply when you are angry!

It will bring you feelings of remorse later on. Ask God to provide you with wisdom on how to reply and may you gain a follower and not an enemy!

A quick testimony about this tip, I had received a negative comment on one of my posts when I first started out. Being human I was tempted to give that person a “piece of my mind” right there and then. But instead I prayed about it and asked God to give me the wisdom and kindness to reply. So I did. What happened next completely shocked me!

The person who had originally made the comment deleted it, apologized, and now she is one of the best supporters I have!

Just goes to show you what a God lead answer said with grace and truth can do!

Do not give people a “piece of your mind”, but rather give them a piece of your heart. ❤

IMG_1739IMG_1753

Well I hope you didn’t mind me sharing my thoughts in a long winding post today!

Enjoy the pictures and have a safe and Happy 4th of July weekend!

Summer Style Trends: Nautical Inspired Modest Outfit featuring Taralynn’s Boutique!

Happy Tuesday! Summer fashion is just about to kick into gear and you better believe that I will be bringing out all my nautical/anchor pieces!

img_2443

img_2433

I cannot commence to explain why this is one of my favorite trends of all time!

The color navy this year has by far been my favorite color! (Sorry pink!) It is so classy and elegant, and the color combinations with navy are endless! Navy is the new black!

img_2422img_2423

logo-1

I recently became  Taralynn’s Boutique new clothing representative! I am so grateful about this opportunity to be part of their team of representatives!

img_2456

They recently sent me this GORGEOUS red striped midi skirt to review for you guys!

I already own their classic black and white striped midi skirt (still a fav!) and was dying to acquire a red and white one especially for a nautical inspired outfit!

d770740ddd1fbad2fadbb12ab214d67b

This beautiful midi skirt is completely modest, has perfect pleats, and is made to last!

My outfit inspiration came from Pinterest from Rachel Parcell , whose style I adore!! I had the pleasure of meeting her and her sister Emily Jackson for the first time last year at the Sperry Event! She truly has a sweet spirit along with an amazing sense of style! (Lol don’t mind my Disney inspired outfit! I had a photoshoot that day and had no time to change!)

img_2438

I realize this could be a great 4th of July outfit, but I couldn’t wait any longer to wear it!

My top was purchased second hand from Poshmark in a size XS, originally from Cynthia Rowley!

This top has a classy anchor print all over it, with three anchor printed buttons on the shoulders for a nice nautical detail!

img_2446img_2431img_2437

And a white teardrop statement necklace to top it all off!

img_2420img_2430img_2426

img_2432

Navy, red, white, cognac, and anchors complete this preppy nautical outfit!

I would highly suggest to invest in these striped midi skirts from Taralynn’s Boutique!

You will have so many endless combinations with these skirts and the best part is that they are made with quality to last!

img_2449img_2448

Well that time has come darlings where I have to say goodbye for now, but will be back tomorrow with more modest outfit inspirations for you girls!

God Bless!

XOXO,

Ashley Amber

Easter & Spring Florals Skirt Outfit!

Yay Friday!! Can’t wait for Easter weekend! It’s definitely going to be a busy one to say the least! It seemed like everyone on campus today was ready for Easter, sporting their floral, pastels and spring ready attire!

img_1054

Fun Fact: These pictures were actually taken at 6:45am this morning hence why they have a gold colored lighting to them, also known as the ”golden hour” for photography apparently. It is sad to admit but the hours from 4am-6am are the only hours I can put effort into anything other than college! Which is why you guys are so awesome for sticking around and visiting my blog! Totally appreciate it!! I want to do so much more but I have to remind myself to make ”bite-sized goals.

I just cannot get enough of this skirt! 😀

It is flowy and comfy like a maxi skirt, but glamorous and girly like a ball gown!

Oh and did I mention it has pockets?!! Yes Please!

snapseed-2img_1031

I decided on wearing just a simple basic black top to balance out the volume on the skirt!

The floral print on this skirt is so feminine and lady-like that call for a set of classy pearls!

The ULTIMATE Modest Holiday LookBook Part 1!

Hello and Happy Sunday Lovelies!!

Boy what a month it has been! I feel like I have so much to catch up with you guys!

Thank you so much for checking up on me after 2 weeks of not posting outfits! You all are so sweet! This month has been full of finals, sickness, flights and going back home for Christmas Break with my family!

Thankfully I am feeling so much better and ready to kill these blog posts! LOL

I am so excited to be back home for the holidays! Don’t get me wrong California is beautiful and all, but it just didn’t feel like Christmas without Utah snow!!

Here are some random snapshots of what’s been going on within the past 3 weeks! Enjoy!

Black Friday Shopping with my girls! It was so fun shopping at 1am! It’s the first time I have stepped foot in a Papaya store and I am obsessed! The deals were amazing at Forever 21! Hello 50% OFF Clearance! It was really awesome meeting two of my followers at the Windsor store! Thank you for totally making my night!

IMG_6345 It’s Christmas Time at Lancaster Baptist Church! It was so much fun inviting people to the Christmas Music Special! The orchestra did an awesome job with all the arrangements! It was a great night of worship and sharing the real reason of the season which is the great story of Jesus Christ!

IMG_6563

Christmas on campus! After a week of intense studying for finals it was awesome to just wind down and enjoy the tree lighting, Christmas crafts, gingerbread house making, and dinner served by our teachers! (So Sweet!)

(Yay for my house not collapsing! LOL)

IMG_6350Monday rolls around and it’s time to pack up for Christmas Break!!! EEK!!

Okay quick confession I actually had already been packed up and ready to go a week before! hahaha!  Needless to say I was excited to go back home for the holidays! Again I love West Coast Baptist College but after finals and just being sick for the longest time I was ready to check out and go home!

Finally at the airport and look what I found! A makeup vending machine! So Cute!! Who agrees that there must be more of these?!

IMG_6376

LA from above! Probably the best part of my flight was when I was half asleep and I heard the pilot announce ”Welcome to Salt Lake City Utah!” I immediately woke up and started getting exciting because I could recognize many familiar landmarks from above!

IMG_6386

And then I arrive to a Winter Wonderland!! #Utah

I decided to pair up my buffalo plaid pencil skirt with my leather peplum from Forever 21! I scored this top on Black Friday for just $3 when it’s original retail price was $30!! SCORE! I added my fav gold bow belt from Two 12 Fashion! I totally recommend you guys to check their site out! They have the best belts ever!

Lastly I added some thick knit black tights and a pair of quilted booties from ShoeDazzle!

IMG_6562-0IMG_6536IMG_6537IMG_6538

Black Sequin Maxi Skirt & Buffalo Plaid Shirt! Featuring Windsor Store!

EEK! This skirt though! I actually bought it last holiday season from the Windsor Store website but I unfortunately got sick and could not even get up from bed :/ (What is up with me getting sick around the holidays?!lol)

I was so excited to wear this skirt but i must admit it was a challenge trying to style this many sequins in one skirt! So I decided to tone it down with a classic plaid shirt from Walmart!

Navy, Golds and Midi Skirts! Featuring The Klassy Girl Boutique!

Oh you guys I cannot express my love for this skirt!!! It is just fit for a Princess that will make you feel like royalty! LOL The golds, navy and stripes just get me every time! C L A S S Y! IMG_6559-0IMG_6546IMG_6547-0IMG_6549-0IMG_6560-0

Gold, Black, Sequins & Polkadots! Featuring T AND J Designs!

Gold, polkadots, and sequins?!! I don’t know about you but that’s a keeper in my book! 😉 I am OBSESSED with this T AND J Designs exclusive design!

One of the things I love the most about this skirt is that it stretches in the waistline which may come in handy for those Mexican holidays feasts! LOL I wore a red long sleeved blouse from Ross that I purchased today for a festive look! I believe I say this quite often but really invest in those staple solid colored blouses! They’re very versatile because they’re solids yet they dress up an outfit than just a regular colored t-shirt! I always check my Ross every Wednesday (because that is when they have their inventory turnover) for these solid colored gems!

Oh!! I almost forgot to mention that T AND J Designs is having a 30% OFF Holiday Sale using the code: HOLIDAY30 at checkout!

IMG_3074.JPG
This is my second Mickey Mouse outfit recreation and I thought since i got a new red shirt I could easily do more Disney Looks! Including this one!

IMG_3086.PNG
Mickey Mouse is probably one of the easiest Disney outfits to recreate since practically any store sells polkadots!!

IMG_3067.JPG

IMG_3066.JPG
I can’t tell you guys how OBSESSED I am with my Taralynn’s Boutique Skirt !

IMG_3078.JPG

IMG_3076.JPG
Now a couple of weeks ago I was at Forever21 and saw these amazing Minnie Mouse / Mickey Mouse headbands for just $3!! There was a black polkadot one and a white one and of course I had to snag them both!
I actually wear them every morning when applying my makeup to get all the hair out of my face!
Great for face masks at night too!

IMG_3080.JPG
I definitely recommend buying solid colored tops at Ross! They’re so cheap and a must have in my closet!!💛👍
I scored this gorgeous red blouse for just $8!

IMG_3063.JPG

IMG_3088.JPG
Let’s talk handbags for a second!!😍
I was shopping at my local mall and there’s a store called the B.O.Y. Store (doesn’t make sense since they sell all cutesty and girly things)
And I stumbled across this gem of a bag!!
I mean come on!! All my weaknesses designed into one cute satchel!!
Bows, old fashioned closures, patent, and a structured body?!?

IMG_3077-0.JPG

IMG_3057.JPG
I’m definitely contemplating on purchasing the red one!! EEK😍❤️

Well that wraps up today’s #disneystyle
