4 Tips on Dressing Modestly & Glamorously! Modest Prom & Formal Dress Hack!

Am I the only one who gets frustrated when I am shopping around for a formal dress and  everything in the store is either too tight, too low-cut, too short, sleeveless, or has the most obnoxious slit toward the thigh? (seriously who wants to see that?!)

Well let me tell you this girl refuses to settle for a less than spectacular formal dress! I think every girl deserves a dress that meets her modest standards while feeling absolutely confident and glamorous while wearing it! So, without further ado,

Here are my 4 Tips on Dressing Modestly and Glamorously!

4-tips-on-dressing-modestly-and-glamorously

Tip #1: Pick a Bold, Rich Color!

Rich colors such as royal blue, purple, rich red, etc. communicates elegance, wealth, sophistication, and intelligence. Even if the dress is of a simple structure, the color choice alone can make it look posh and refined without all the “bling”.

This is a great tip if “bling isn’t your thing”.

However, if you’re like me and love sparkles, glitter, and bling, a sequined or beaded top with a simpler bottom will have the sparkle we desire without being too overbearing!

Tip #2: Life is Easier with Sleeves

Come on, admit it if at some point in your life you have purchased a dress with a “modesty issue” thinking you would fix it and then totally giving up on it! (Don’t worry I’ve totally been there too!)

Here’s a tip, just buy the dress that has sleeves, or is longer, or isn’t as tight.

Avoid the woe and the worry to try and find a jacket that will cover up and match the dress. Most of the time finding a bolero jacket that will match the style of dress is very difficult to find and we all know that wearing a matching colored t-shirt underneath is a no-go either!

So save yourself some heartbreak and buy the dress with sleeves!

Tip #3: Own your Outfit with Accessories

As Michael Kors said,

I’ve always thought of accessories as the exclamation point of a woman’s outfit.

The right accessories can make a dress off the catalog look unique and one in a million!

The accessories I chose today was a classic understated yet elegant Classic Black Sheffield 35mm Rose Gold Daniel Wellington watch and rose gold cuff!

This watch is the epitome of sheer elegance! I love that it can look good with a casual outfit as well as a glamorous one! Every girl needs a classic watch for her wardrobe!

I also chose a classic fur shawl to give this looks a vintage Hollywood vibe.

Tip #4: RDD

Rent a Designer Dress

Here’s a little hack for all you girls that have a prom, banquet or sweethearts dance coming up….

PSSSSTT… Rent a Dress!

and better yet rent a designer dress! Why Designer?

Here’s the thing, designer dresses are more expensive.

“No duh we knew that!” is probably what you’re thinking.

But hear me out, most designer dresses are more expensive because they have more quality fabric, more fabric equals more coverage.

This Sherri Hill dress has more coverage than your average formal dress, which features cap sleeves, more layers to the bottom chiffon skirt, and even a covering slip underneath!

Originally this dress costs a whooping $400, kinda pricey especially if you are only wearing it once! Luckily for me, I found the Bling it On Dress Rentals! They have the BEST selection for your next formal event and I was shocked to find a substantial amount of modest formal gowns! Overall a great experience!

Lastly, here is a freebie tip just for you guys 😉

TIP #5: You’re never fully dressed without a SMILE!

So go ahead and use those 26 muscles to smile and feel confident in whatever you chose to wear! At the end of the day it’s just clothes and what really makes us shine and stand out is not the dress, hair style , or makeup  but the person wearing it!

Hope you enjoyed these tips and make sure to save them on your Pinterest boards!!

Until next time,

Styling a Polka Dot Skirt 3 Ways! Featuring Dainty Jewells!

Hello and Happy Saturday!!
Hooray for a 3 day weekend!!😍

Let’s talk Polka dots!! I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say they disliked polka dots!
They’re universally flattering and a timeless classic in the fashion world!
Today I will be sharing with you different ways to style a classic polkadot skirt and maybe just maybe you’ll be inspired to step outside of your comfort zone!

Let’s jump right in!!

1. Option 1: Solids
One reason we all love the polkadot print is because we can pair them up with virtually any color!!
For a safe and easy look, try a solid colored blouse on top of your black and white polka dot skirt! Totally get your colored shirts from Ross they’re always so inexpensive and you can purchase a bunch for under $30!

Have fun with the endless color choices! Red,Cobalt,Hot Pink,Yellow Black etc…
On the “Fashion Risk Meter” this look is at a comfortable 1! Great for beginners and everyone really!

2. Option 2: Stripes
Now we’re starting to get a little more daring with some pattern mixing!
Stripes and Polkadots work well in this outfit because they both have something in common: the colors black and white.
When pattern mixing you want to find a unifying theme! Also make sure that the stripes are smaller print than the polkadots and you’re ready to go!
On the “Fashion Risk Meter” this one ranks a 5! Perfect for pattern mixing beginners to step out of their comfort zone a tad bit!

3. Option 3: Floral

Now I know what you’re thinking
“Floral and polkadots?!? Did a 5 year old dress you?”
Haha I assure you that it can work when done properly!
What you need to remember that a polkadot skirt is considered as a “neutral”, thus allowing you to pair it up with something colorful and fun!
To avoid looking like you dressed yourself in the dark lol the floral print MUST be smaller size print than the polkadot or vice versa!
If you pair the patterns up with the same size print then you will achieve a non harmonious outfit that in all honesty looks a bit “off”. (I think you know what I mean 🙂

On the “Fashion Risk Meter” this one definitely is a solid 10!
Trust me It took me a while to get used to pattern mixing but remember to start small!
Do one pattern mixing at a time until you get comfortable with more!
Before you know you’ll be mixing all sorts of pattern and textures!
Well that wraps up today’s post!

Modest Church Outfit! How to Style a Tulle Skirt!

Happy Sunday To you all!!!

Boy it was a HOT day here in Utah! I mean wearing a tulle skirt in 90 degree weather was probably not the best idea but I was feeling in high spirits today and wearing bright colors was a must!

IMG_2304

You might recognize this skirt from one of my previous lookbooks, the ”Modest Disney Princess” LookBook !

I only wore it once for the photo shoot but I finally found it again just casually hanging in my closet begging for me to wear it again!

IMG_2301

You might recognize this ”shirt” from one of my previous outfits!

IMG_1955

Lol I wanted to wear a crop striped shirt from Forever 21 that is EXACTLY like this one but it was a long sleeve top and it was much too hot for that!

Here’s a little fashion hack that I always use! Wear your dresses as tops for your high waisted skirts!

Sometimes the perfect top isn’t really a top!

So instead I wore this She Inside pencil dress as my top today since it was short sleeve!

IMG_2300

For my necklace I wanted a chic and polished look so I opted for a gold necklace I purchased from Claire’s!

IMG_2304

Truth be told I woke up this morning with second day Flinstone hair; so up it went! (Gotta love 2 minute hairstyles on a Sunday morning!)

IMG_2303

Fashion Inspiration for today’s outfit goes to the fabulous bumble bees!

IMG_2299

Well that wraps up today’s church #ootd ! I hope you all have a short Monday tomorrow!

Til Next Time

XOXO,

Ashley

Modest Ways to Style Denim Shirts!

Happy Thursday Girlies!!

IMG_0946

As I was folding the laundry this past week I noticed a common thread in my choices of shirts. The majority of them were all denim/chambray shirts!! At that point I didn’t know whether it was a good thing or I needed some sort of therapy! lol I love all my chambray shirts equally and I do not have one that I prefer over the other! I would say that I wear chambray shirts at least twice a week! They’re so easy to style! I kid you not, they go with everything!!!

Denim is the new black!

IMG_0983

Outfit #1 Use your chambray shirt tied at the waist instead of a jean jacket!

Jean jackets are great, but they can be heavy and too hot for the summer. A chambray shirt tied at the waist gives you the same look as a jean jacket without all the bulk!

IMG_0976

For accessories I wore a gold half moon statement necklace to give it a touch of glam! P.S. I love the ruching of this maxi skirt!

Outfit #2: Wear your chambray shirt with bold statement skirts!

I love a bold print on my skirts especially when they’re full and grand! Sometimes you just have to let the skirt be the star of the show!

IMG_0977

Outfit #3: Wear your chambray as a layering piece under cardigans!

This is my ultimate favorite way to wear chambray shirts, just peeking out of a cardigan!

It makes the outfit more sophisticated and chic!

IMG_0978

I love to cuff the sleeves over the cardigan for that extra pop of denim! I added a mint bubble necklace for a fun pop of color for spring!

Outfit #4 : Use your chambray shirt as a neutralizer with Sequin Skirts

IMG_0957

Have you ever paired two very flashy items together and looked in the mirror in horror?!

Sure, the pieces individually are amazing, but a total disaster when paired together! That’s why I love to pair sequins with denim because it acts as a neutralizer and lets the sequins steal the show!

I hope you girls have found this helpful and I want to see how you style your denim shirts!

There will be a part 2 coming in the near future!

XOXO
