✂️📓❤️DIY Chalkboard Notebooks! College Girl Edition✂️📓❤️

Happy Saturday Lovelies!!

I am blown away at how fast the weeks go by here at West Coast feels like just yesterday that it was Monday and I was flooded with assignments!

Thankfully by the grace of God I was able to turn them all in on time, but looking at my due list (aka the ”torture list” lol) this week I’m going to be needing grace this week as well!

Whenever I am feeling slightly overwhelmed I take some time to turn on some Disney music and get crafting! It’s quite therapeutic believe it or not lol!

So out of my stress; came about this DIY ! Isn’t it lovely how that works out? 😀 lol

Recently I have been OBSESSED with cute inspirational quote books to write sermon notes, devotionals, personal thoughts and random doodles! However sometimes those little $4-6 books can add up (especially when you buy all of them! #guilty ) So instead I decided on making my own! Plus you are able to customize them with your favorite quotes!

img_0696

So let’s get started!

For this project you will need:

  • Composition books (88 cents at Walmart)
  • Chalkboard Paint ($5 also at Walmart or Michael’s)
  • Chalkboard Pens or Regular Chalk ($9 for 4 pens/ $2 for individual pens/ or 50 cents for a pack of regular chalk)
  • Sponge Brushes (99 cents for a pack of 4)

Step 1: Paint 2 coats onto the notebook surface with your chalkboard paint!

img_0633

Honestly you can realistically get away with one coat but for a neater, cleaner look I would go ahead and do 2 coats!

Step 2:  Allow it to dry for at least 10-15 minutes per coat!

The best part about chalkboard paint is that it dries ridiculously fast! In about 10-15 minutes the first coat was all dry and ready to be drawn on!

Step 3: DECORATE!

And the final step is to decorate and use your creativity at this point! You can have fun with all different colors of chalkboard pens/chalk!

I highly would recommend investing in chalkboard pens rather than using regular sidewalk chalk. They will definitely give that ”script” type font to your designs!

img_0667

I probably enjoyed this little DIY waayy more than I should have! It is definitely addicting! After the first couple of notebooks I completed, I went ahead and purchased a few more to have fun with! They make great, inexpensive, and not to mention personalized gifts for your teachers, room mates, friends and family! Don’t forget to mention inside or on a note when giving them away that it was ”Handmade with Love!”

They are sure to love them! Here’s one I made for my friend Rochelle’s birthday! They make the best gift basket fillers! Another idea is to make a ”Be Still ” themed Gift Basket

based off of my personal favorite life verse in Psalm 46:10 ”Be Still and Know that I am God.” You can add a cute coffee mug, with your gift recipient’s fav tea/coffee, cozy blanket, face mask, EOS lip balm, and anything that will allow your friend to just ”Be Still’ and relax for a moment!

img_0699

So here is the total DIY project breakdown cost!

Total Cost:

Composition Book= 88 cents (Walmart)

Chalkboard Paint= $4.74 (Walmart)

*Many craft stores have them now for much cheaper as low as $2 at JoAnns and Michaels!

Pack of 4 sponge brushes= $1 (Walmart or Dollar Tree)

Chalkboard Pen= $3 for a single one/ or $9 for a pack of 4 *your choice*

Total cost=$9.62 *if only a single chalkboard pen purchased

$15.62 *if you purchase the 4-pack of chalkboard pens

Great value and you can use the chalkboard paint for another project!

Below I have attached some ideas to decorate your notebooks! Looking at Pinterest for cute verse typography really helped! Enjoy!

Disney Princess Cinderella + Mint Tulle Skirt Outfit! Featuring Space 46 Boutique!

Happy Monday Friends!!

Disney Fashion Week is in full force and we are starting off the week with another Cinderella Inspired Outfit!

IMG_3703

IMG_3698

You may have recalled two of my past Cinderella Inspired outfits, but I couldn’t help myself for one more go at this stylish Princess!

IMG_4491

So for this week I wanted to channel my inner Cinderella in a more subtle way!

IMG_4478

You guys!! I finally found my holy grail tee shirt!!

Disney and Vogue ?!! Together?!! Ugh this is perfection beyond belief!

Two of my favorite obsessions wrapped up into one glorious top!

I scored this awesome shirt late one night browsing through Poshmark for just $10!

IMG_4480

I decided to pair up my Vogue Cinderella Shirt with my mint tulle skirt from Space 46 Boutique!

I have seen this dreamy tulle skirt all over Pinterest and I just HAD to get my hands on one!

I finally pulled the trigger and bought my first Space 46 tulle skirt! They are totally worth every penny!

My favorite part of this skirt is the satin waistband, and the volume of the skirt! Not too poofy and not too flat but just right!

I think Goldilocks would approve 😉

IMG_4488

IMG_4475

For accessories and shoes I wore my single strand rhinestone necklace with my DIY Cinderella Shoes!

I decided on a single strand necklace so it would add some shine to the outfit but wouldn’t distract from the wording of the actual shirt. And for $1 you just can’t beat that! I actually bought a back up of the necklace!

For shoes I couldn’t decide on which pair, so I wore both! lol

The first pair I purchased it from a shoe clearance sale at the mall for just $5.99! They’re double strapped and have the coolest holographic print all over them!

IMG_4472

IMG_4469

The second pair of heels were my Silver Glitter Heels I made from an old pair of pumps I had laying around!

Here’e the link to my DIY Cinderella Shoe tutorial! So Easy and a great inexpensive way to spruce up your old heels!

IMG_4486

For hair and makeup: I went for my go to Retro 60’s Inspired Half Up- Half Down Do!

It’s really quite simple and some of you on Instagram have requested a hair tutorial, which I am currently working on!

My go to makeup is quite neutral, which includes just layering shadows of light brown, medium brown and dark chocolate brown to enhance the crease! Big lashes, and bold winged eyeliner have become part of my usual makeup routine.

My go to palette is definitely the LORAC PRO/LORAC UNZIPPED! The shadows are pillow soft and blend out gorgeously!

I used to be a total Urban Decay junkie now I am a LORAC girl all the way!

DIY Father’s Day Gift Ideas!👔

Happy Sunday and Happy Father’s Day !!
I was determined this year to make Father’s Day as equally crafty as Mother’s Day and that the dads would approve!
So today in church we a had Father’s Day Breakfast and I thought I would bring fruit but in a different way that would make all the fathers (and children) want to eat them!
Anything tastes better when it’s on kabobs!

IMG_2651-0.JPG
I finally got to use my Christmas gift yesterday night , the Pop Chef!
Now I love doing fruit arrangements and have done it the old fashioned way, with a knife and a cookie cutter!
(Terribly messy!)
But I am OBSESSED how easy and quick it was to do fun shapes !!

IMG_2653-0.JPG

IMG_2652-0.JPG
Since it was Father’s Day I wanted to make something that would fit the occasion and the season, none other then making a barbecue grill out of watermelon!

IMG_2671-0.JPG

IMG_2669-0.JPG
So here what you’ll need to get started!

~1 Round Watermelon
~ Strawberries I used about 5 cartons
~ 3 Pineapples
~ Skewer Sticks
~ 2 Bags of Grapes
~ Celery Sticks

First things first you want to the watermelon straight down the middle!
Next you want to take your melon baller and scoop all the flesh out and save it for the fruit kabobs!

IMG_2659-0.JPG
Next you want to make three holes on the bottom for the legs! Don’t drill to deep or else they won’t stay up! Kind like a bowling ball.

IMG_2654-0.JPG
Put the celery sticks in for the legs! And Reinforce them with the skewers!

IMG_2655-0.JPG

IMG_2656-0.JPG
Next you want to place your “charcoal” (grapes) in the watermelon and place skewers all over the top to make the grill.

IMG_2657-0.JPG
Assemble your fruit kabobs and add them to the top and you’re done!

IMG_2671-1.JPG

IMG_2669-1.JPG
My dad loved the idea of the watermelon grill!

Next craft was the Hershey’s Envelope Dress Shirt Gift!

Because which dad doesn’t like chocolate ?
I saw this on Pinterest and immediately had to give it a try!

IMG_2668-0.JPG
What you will need:
~White Envelopes
~ Hershey’s Candy bars
~ Scrapbook Paper
~Hot Glue

First you want to cut the envelope about an inch and seal it up !

IMG_2663-1.JPG

IMG_2664-1.JPG

IMG_2665-1.JPG
Next find the middle and cut about an inch and fold them down to make the collared shirt!
So cute!!

IMG_2666-0.JPG

IMG_2667-0.JPG
After that you want to draw your tie template and trace it onto your fav scrapbook paper!
I love the polkadot tie! Just Saying!

IMG_2661-0.JPG
Hot Glue everything on and Put the Hershey’s candy bar in and you’re done!!💙👔

IMG_2668-1.JPG

IMG_2660-0.JPG
I hope you enjoyed your Father’s Day!!!

Modest Church Outfit! How to Style a Tulle Skirt!

Happy Sunday To you all!!!

Boy it was a HOT day here in Utah! I mean wearing a tulle skirt in 90 degree weather was probably not the best idea but I was feeling in high spirits today and wearing bright colors was a must!

IMG_2304

You might recognize this skirt from one of my previous lookbooks, the ”Modest Disney Princess” LookBook !

I only wore it once for the photo shoot but I finally found it again just casually hanging in my closet begging for me to wear it again!

IMG_2301

You might recognize this ”shirt” from one of my previous outfits!

IMG_1955

Lol I wanted to wear a crop striped shirt from Forever 21 that is EXACTLY like this one but it was a long sleeve top and it was much too hot for that!

Here’s a little fashion hack that I always use! Wear your dresses as tops for your high waisted skirts!

Sometimes the perfect top isn’t really a top!

So instead I wore this She Inside pencil dress as my top today since it was short sleeve!

IMG_2300

For my necklace I wanted a chic and polished look so I opted for a gold necklace I purchased from Claire’s!

IMG_2304

Truth be told I woke up this morning with second day Flinstone hair; so up it went! (Gotta love 2 minute hairstyles on a Sunday morning!)

IMG_2303

Fashion Inspiration for today’s outfit goes to the fabulous bumble bees!

IMG_2299

Well that wraps up today’s church #ootd ! I hope you all have a short Monday tomorrow!

Til Next Time

XOXO,

Ashley

Modest Summer Nautical Outfit! Featuring Debbie’s Closet +GIVEAWAY!!

Happy Friday Everyone!!

Boy what a week!! I mean I am physically exhausted yet ready to roll for next week!

It has been raining the past few weeks here in Utah but today it finally feels like summer!

I am SO excited for summer because I can finally wear my stash of nautical themed clothing again!!!

IMG_2259

This shirt is EVERYTHING! It is a new purchase and I’ve already worn it in 4 outfits! (Different places of course lol)

Since it was very hot out, I did a very high sock bun with my bangs framing my face.

I’ve been wearing my hair in an updo because truth be told, I have not had any time to curl/straighten it at all this week!

It used to take me FOREVER to get this updo to look just right, sometimes it would be to loose or too tight or lopsided!

Turns out that I bought a new sock bun from Claire’s for about $5 which is more than what I paid for my first sock bun (only paid like a buck for the first one ) but it looked like it would hold way more hair!

I totally recommend the sock bun from Claire’s!!! It really made a difference and I can get this hair style done in less than 2 minutes!

IMG_2258

So let’s talk about this skirt!! It’s AMAZING!!!

IMG_2251

IMG_2255

From the first minute I tried it on I knew that this would be my go to skirt for my ”lazy days!”

It’s like this cool scuba material that just holds you all in! They literally feel like pajamas and they’re modest which is always a plus!!

I decided to pair this skirt up with my red bow heels to add a pop of color! I will be forever in love with the color combination of red, navy and white!

I wanted to share this skirt with three of you girlies so let’s have a quick giveaway shall we?!!

There will be 3 winners!!

Here’s how to Enter:

1. Follow ModestlyHot Blog (Follow Button is on the right side of the page!)

And that’s it!!!

Winners will be announced on Sunday!!

Easy Fruit of the Spirit Kids Craft! Sunday School Crafts!

Happy Monday Everyone!!

Even though this is being put together Sunday night with my mint julep face mask on (which is ahhmazing btw!) as I’m catching up on some 19 Kids and Counting episodes!

My face mask has hardened and I don’t dare to even smile! lol

IMG_2064

I thought I would share with you all the craft me and the kiddos did today in Sunday School!

I love doing crafts and having so much fun with the kids, yes we’re probably the loudest class (Sorry church members!) but I think that’s a good sign of how much of a good time we’re having while learning the Word of God!

So today’s lesson was about oranges!!

Jk! Well kinda! lol

We learned about the Fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22-23.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

This lesson was awesome because it covers so many great character building traits all in one lesson!

We learned about how God creates these qualities in us through his Spirit.

Each kid had a fruit assigned to them with a quality and they had to explain in their own words how they would exercise that specific quality!

(Everyone wanted to be the watermelon for some strange reason lol)

I always try to accompany a lesson with a relating craft because I remember how much fun I had doing craft time in my Sunday School!
So as I was looking for cute ideas on Pinterest I stumbled across the most awesome website; Bible Story Printables! They had all the resources and images ready to print and for free!

IMG_2057

I mean how cute are these?!

It then hit me to make a ”Fruit Bowl of the Spirit Craft” for the kiddos!

(Thanks Zak for the clever name lol)

All you need is:

~Paper

~Printer and Ink

~Scissors

~Hot Glue Gun

~Disposable Bowl

~Markers and Crayons

~Candy Grapes (Optional)

IMG_2059-0

Print these adorable fruit shapes here.

Click on that link for the free printable!

Next, you want to have a couple of little helpers color and cut the fruits! (So adorable seeing them try their hardest to color within the lines!)

IMG_2058-0

IMG_2060

It might be a good idea to help the younger kids with the hot glue! (Trust me I, to this day still end up burning myself! )

IMG_2061

Glue all your little fruits on the edge of the bowl and add some candy sour grapes to make it look like a legit fruit bowl!

I mean how cute and easy right?!!

I love this craft because its adorable and very affordable! Believe me it can get pretty expensive really fast making crafts for 20 kids!

I have a funny and crazy story to tell, some may say it is somewhat of a testimony.

Now, I love doing all these fun projects for the kids and just going to Michael’s and getting excited for all the fun crafting possibilities! But recently every time I purchase things for my Sunday School class , my bank automatically deposits the EXACT amount that I spent for the craft/lesson!!!! The same EXACT amount down to the pennies and all!

We have to agree that is no coincidence!

No doubt about it that we serve a Great and Mighty God!

I hope you all have happiness and exciting adventures this week!

DIY Dollar Tree Fashion Hacks!

Happy Monday Everyone!!

I hope the Monday blues aren’t too horrible for ya today!

Mine aren’t too bad since the weather is quite pleasant today!

As with every Sunday my room looks like a tornado hit it! It’s like I try to keep it clean all week long to just end up destroying it on Sunday looking for an outfit! It’s usually pretty messy but man it’s not just clothes on the ground but a jungle of statement necklaces, stilettos, and hair products! (Can you say hazardous?)

So in order for me to get any sort of fashion inspiration I needed to roll up my sleeves and clean up!

So last night I went to Dollar Tree like 30 minutes before they closed, (time was not my friend yesterday) and looked for things to help me organize my stuff!

And I thought I would share some fashion organization hacks that have helped keep my sanity! lol

IMG_1921

So my first goal to cleaning up was definitely my scarf drawers!

Now I feel it is my duty to keep it real with you all and show pics of the disastrous drawer…

IMG_1902

Yep, and this one was the ”least chaotic” looking one!

I had tons of drawers just stuffed full of scarves that I couldn’t even open them!

And I needed the space so I could store more clothes in them instead of having them folded on my floor :/

IMG_1898

So I picked up these shower curtain rings which have come a long way since they had more colors this time!

Of course I opted to go for the white shower curtain rings  since it would match my room decor the best!

IMG_1923

I clipped the rings onto a hanger and hung 12 scarves onto a single hanger!

Each pack of curtain rings comes with 12 of them which is pretty awesome!

This was a total game changer because A. I finally had space in my drawers, and B. They hung nice and flat in my closet!

And I could see all my scarves instead of having to dig for them!

IMG_1928

My next problem area was the infamous ”junk drawer”! *Dun Dun dun!*

IMG_1909

Now I found this drawer a couple days ago while searching for a red lipstick that I thought had ”magically” disappeared!

Turns out this is where all my ”missing makeup” was!

Now I kinda wanted to just close the drawer shut and forget about it but I felt bad that this makeup was going to go bad and not be used!

So I was on the hunt for something to organize all my junk drawers!

IMG_1907

Silverware tray? I prefer to call it a ”Junk Drawer” Organizer thingy.

IMG_1931

BAM! I am motivated to finally use all this stuff up!

Of course this whole organizing drawers thing was getting to be real fun so I thought I would go ahead and organize my hair accessory drawer too!

IMG_1925

Now I totally forgot to insert a before photo of this junk drawer but trust me it was pretty bad. (Was is the keyword here lol)

Alright my next problem were making my boots stay standing up!

Normally I would put magazines inside the boots but these boots were really tall and a magazine was not going to cut it!

So of course pool noodles would be tall enough!

IMG_1929

IMG_1914

Yay! Problem solved! I might do this with all my other boots as well!

I spent about less than $10 to get organized and back to getting inspired! (Not to mention stress free!)

I hope you enjoyed this easy hacks to getting organized!!

Til Next Time,

God Bless You!

XOXO,

Ashley
